Why did you choose Division of Biological Science at NAIST?

While looking for a Master's program in Japan about Biological Science, I was introduced about NAIST from my friend, an alumni of NAIST. It was easy to look for information about laboratories, research field and enrollment procedure in English. Moreover, I have had an interest in plant secondary metabolites and I have found a related laboratory in NAIST.

What is your research topic?

Functional characterization of flavonoid 3-O-glycosyltransferase genes located in a neo-functionalization genomic region

Did you change your research field after entering NAIST?If so, how was the experience of changing it?

Yes, I did. Since my background was chemical engineering. So far, I have instructed by my professors and labmates to approach new techniques as well as gaining more knowledge in this field. I greatly appreciate that and everything is going well.

How is the atmosphere in your lab?

It is great with friendly labmates and professors

What is your goals for the future?

My goal is to find a job as a researcher in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

What are your tips for enjoying life at NAIST?

If you have time and like outside activities, it is good to follow some volunteer activities or sport clubs from ISAS which make us be closer to Japanese life and culture. One more thing, it is great to join Japanese culture class.

Tell us about something you think that only you have experienced.

Learning a Master's program from a different background is a challenge. Other international students in the same batch with me are mainly from biological field and they are also outstanding with their knowledge. I did feel overwhelming to follow them in classes at first. However, I have done courseworks well with all my effort and desire to gain knowlegde in Biological Science.
