Detail | Photosythetic productivity of C3 and C4 plants varies considerably and recently some successful attempts have been made to transfer PEPcase genes from Maize to rice. However during our investigations it has been established that latex biosynthesis in members of Euphorbiaceae is influenced by several factors and stress plays a major role for the same. The spatial separation is essential for performance of C4 cycle in any C3 plant and there appears to be some difference in understanding regarding the effectiveness of such genetically transformed systems from C4 to C3 plants. The variation in enzyme patterns in C3 and C4 plants have been examined using the plant tissue culture system from C3 and C4 plants and details have been published in our recent publication in the form of a book ( Neumann, Kumar, Imani 2009, Kumar and Sopory 2010). The development of photosynthetic apparatus including enzyme system is influenced by the morphogenetic factors and differentiational status determines the enzyme patterns in both the plant systems. Details of the biochemical pathways have been worked out and shall be presented. Stress plays an important role in enhancing the metabolism at a certain level and moderate levels of stress have been reported to enhance latex biosynthesis . The nutrient use efficiency for certain plants determines their productivity and biomass production in terms of oil has shown inverse correlation with foliage production for Jatropha under experimental conditions. |
