We understand the mechanism of gene expression regulation in plants, and as applied research we are developing fundamental technologies for efficient production of useful proteins such as biopharmaceuticals in plants.

Please tell us about the difficulties and joys of the research field.

The most attractive aspect of conducting research is that the technology that we’ve developed is actually used by several companies and reflected in their products in a relatively short period of time.

Please tell us about the expected results and social significance of the project.

We contribute to society through biotechnology by actively obtaining patents for the fundamental technologies we’ve developed and by providing these technologies and know-how to a wide range of companies.

A message of support for students who are about to take the exam

It’s important for students to have the spirit to aim for further skill development in graduate school rather than only focusing on finding a job after graduating from undergraduate school. We provide guidance so that students assigned to our laboratories can logically understand their own research and expand and develop their knowledge base. In addition to regular laboratory meetings, we invite researchers and practitioners from various industries to introduce the knowledge necessary for company R & D. Through this guidance, we aim to develop human resources who can play an active role in a wide range of fields in a low-growth, global society.

In addition to the basic knowledge of general biology, knowledge and experience in molecular biology and statistics will help you commence your research smoothly.
